Place Name:  Taos

Founded:        1849

Origin:           Taos, New Mexico


Located in the Liberty Township east of Jefferson City, Taos was founded about 1849, shortly after the Mexican War. It was named by returning soldiers, of Cole County, for Taos, New Mexico. (J.C.
